Douglas R. Newberry Joins American Business Development Group
Former Deputy to the Commander at U.S. Army's Tank and Automotive Command (TACOM) to focus on Company's current client base while attracting new clients interested in the Defense Automotive marketplace
Arlington, VA, July 21, 2009
Douglas R Newberry has accepted a senior position with American Business Development Group (ABDG) effective July 20, 2009. Mr. Newberry brings significant federal service experience to ABDG's Defense Automotive organization.
From 1995 until retirement in 2001, Mr. Newberry was the Deputy to the Commander at TACOM- the first civilian to hold that position in the organization's history. As the Deputy to the Commander, Mr. Newberry was responsible for integrating Army acquisition, logistics, technology responsibilities, authorities, and processes. This enabled a closer relationship among all its partner organizations that develop, acquire and sustain the capabilities provided by ground and soldier systems around the world. With a workforce of approximately 12,000 personnel, Mr. Newberry was responsible for over 3,500 fielded systems and 29,000 components worldwide.
Prior to joining ADBG, Mr. Newberry spent the last eight years working as a consultant exclusively as the Director of Strategic Initiatives for BAE Global Tactical Systems and its predecessor organizations.
In 1967, Mr. Newberry started a career with the U.S. Government with accounting positions at Fort Campbell, Kentucky and Fort Bragg. In 1973, he transferred to TACOM as Chief of the Accounting Branch (Finance and Accounting Division of the Comptroller). Selected to participate in the Army Comptrollership Program, he earned an MBA from Syracuse University. Subsequent positions at TACOM include Finance and Accounting Officer (GM-15); Comptroller of TACOM with a promotion to Senior Executive Service, which is the highest rank that can be achieved in Civil Service; and Director of the Resource Management Center.
Mr. Newberry holds a business administration degree from the University of Tennessee where he received ROTC commission and entered the Army as a Field Artillery Officer at Fort Still, Oklahoma in 1964. He later served as Platoon Leader, 82nd Airborne Division at Fort Bragg, North Carolina and Forward Observer, 101st Airborne Division in Vietnam. He has received numerous civil awards including the President's Rank of Meritorious Executive (1987 and 1998).
"Doug's extensive knowledge and understanding of the Army's tactical defense business will be a significant addition to ABDG's current culture and its clients" said Bill Skipper, President and CEO of ABDG. "Adding Doug's capabilities, experiences and access to customers, integrators and OEM's continues to strengthen our Defense Automotive team, making it one of the largest and most focused business development consulting firms working within the DOD", said Mike Hurst, Vice President Military Programs at ABDG.
